Though named after the ancient volcanic rock, Obsidious are bonded by a love for technical death metal. This group of superb players features current and former members of Obscura, Dååth, Eternity’s End and Juggernaut. No wonder their first album was instantly iconic.

This week, Obsidious are banding together with like-minded supergroup Alkaloid. To gear up for these three special dates in Germany and Austria, the band’s sensational guitarist Rafael Trujillo released a playthrough of their salacious single “Sense of Lust”.

When it comes to fretboard mastery, no metalhead is a quicker study than Rafael Trujillo. He’s picked the brains of leading thinkers at the Munich Guitar Institute, Conservatorium van Amsterdam and Berklee College of Music. Before mind-melding with his fellow virtuosos in Obsidious, Trujillo flexed his chops as Obscura’s primary shredder on Diluvium. He’s also helped lead Dååth’s triumphant comeback.
Trujillo whips out all of his seductive tricks on “Sense of Lust”: commanding riff chugs, tremolo picks that crack with the unforgiving force of a whip, a finger-tapped solo that would leave even the most righteous headbangers crawling on their knees. As the last dying notes squeeze out from under his fingers, it sounds like he could crush the whole world in his palm-muted hands.
